The Subaru Impreza, one of the most well known Japanese cars. In 1992 Subaru was looking for the Leone successor. And decided to introduce the Impreza The car became well known in the car industry but especially the WRX STI versions. The first STI was released in 1994 all STI models had a little more horsepower and were a little faster. But in 2001 things became different, STI's 265bhp and a 0-100km/h (62mph) in 5,5 seconds time. This was also the start of the famous colour scheme blue paint and gold rims. On the version we're looking at today there isn't that much changed from the first gen STI. The frontlights are a little different and the hoodintake got a little bigger. The Impreza is still in production..
The model we're looking at today is made by IXO. We probably all know IXO for making good quality 1:43 scale models, but lately they got into making 1:18 closed diecast models. This model can be picked up at around $60, is it worth the price?

We're starting off at the front off the model. The proportions are well done. The lights are done in chrome with orange, they look pretty good, but they have put little dots on the clear layer over it which looks a bit odd.. Under the lights we can see the STI branding printed on a very nice decal and nothing wrong there.
Moving over to the middle we have two intakes, the bottom one is sadly closed but the top one is partly meshed, well done. I especially like the metal etched Subaru emblem. The STI badge isn't made out of metal sadly. |
Next up is the side of this model, adn can I just say, IXO nailed the ride height it's perfect imo. There isn't soo much to see on the side here. The indicator is just painted on, aswell as the keyhole on the doorhandle. The windows have a nice black outline and again there is the STI branding.

Wheels are decent on this model, sadly the are completely made out of plastic, but the detail is ok. Wheels have nice lugnuts painted in black. Brake calliper doesn't look to detailed but it's allright for this price. Nice little touch is the golden Brembo brake disc.

Next up is the rear, famous for it's big rear wing. The rear is by far my favourite part of this model. The lights are made in the same style as the front, and again with those dots which don't make it much nicer. The WRX and Subaru badging is metal etched. For the exhaust IXO made the insides black for a more realistic look, pretty nice. The third brake light is just printed on and in silver, meh could be better.
For this review I decided to take it apart to get a better look at the interior, now you can also see what you get when buying this model. A diecast body and an interior.
The interior is decent for the price. There is a lot of black but some buttons are painted in grey. But detail could have defenitely been better. The gages are good. But the air vents had to be better. Steering is good, featuring the STI logo. The seats have a very shiny cool blue paint on them. The inner doorcards also have some of the blue paint, neat little touch.
Conclusion time. The model's ouside is great, offcourse this isn't a BBR or AUTOart model, but for the $60 it's a great model. Interior could be better, but for the Subaru lover this is a great add and it doesn't break the bank.
